I have a 2002 Beneteau 331. Last year my wife who is normally at the helm when we are leaving or coming into dock has notice alot of play in the steering wheel / rudder. I took notice when the diver that changes our zincs mid-season said to me, "Hey you have some play in your rudder, more than what I see on other boats". I checked the steering linkages from both inside the boat and at the helm. Everthing looks tight.
I callled Beneteau and told them of my problem. They sent me a one page document titled " Play correction for a polyester rudder shaft" . They stated that this might help. It looks like I will need to remove the rudder and uisng Methylethycetome (MEC) and PMS 60 ployurethance glue, clean, tighten and re-glue what is called the Fendue ring / Bronze bearing.
Has anyone done this before and if so will it help?
Thank you!
