Rudder Packing

Above where the rudder post goes through the hull there is a double nut threaded on to the post. This is sort of like the packing gland for the drive shaft. Is there a packing inside of this because if I tighten the large nut the water drip slows down. I have never seen any reference to this and would like to know if this is a packing that should be changed.

H33 rudder post packing

Go to the photo forum and find the articles for the cherubini 33. Scroll down and there is a good photo forum article by Ken Palmer for accessing and replacing the packing. In the meantime, you can try loosening the lock nut and tightening down the packing nut a bot which may fix you.
