Greetings: Here's my problem. When I am on the mooring at night with the tiller locked in the midships position, it seems to clunk ever so slightly. Now she is on the hard, and before I do any drastic digging to drop the rudder down, I was wondering if I am missing some maintenance issue here? Climbing in the battery compartment, I see a grease fitting on the rudder tube. What kind of grease does it take and how much? And does anyone think this would help? Thank You for any help you send my way.

Hello Mick,
I'm sure some grease won't hurt. My 84 O28 has two grease fittings on the rudder tube. One toward the top of the tube the other toward the bottom of the tube. Use a marine grade grease. I ended up pumping quite a bit in, until I seen it coming out the top of the tube.

I'll check the tube top. I only saw one. It sure would be easier than dropping the rudder, I do not think its the bushings. Thank You
