Beaching Rudder
Aldo is exactly on, any aft positioning of a beaching rudder will cause great helm torque issues even with otherwise normal amounts of weather helm. Not sure how the C22 beaching rudder is configured, but the one on the C250 used a rivet-detent along with compression to hold the rudder down and that system proved not very good. A little wear and the rudder lagged aft an inch or so and caused excessive torque. My fix was to change to a bungee hold down by adding a cheek block and cleat. This system has worked great for many years now with the advantage of holding the rudder fully forward to the stop, self returning the rudder down after a grounding, and providing both pull up and pull down lines. Here is a pic of the conversionhttp://www.stewartfam.net/arlyn/rudder.jpg
