I own a Beneteau 42cc (2005). Recently, I notiiced water on the floor of the engine room and traced it back to the base of the rudder tube. This composite orfiberglass rudder tube is around 5" in diameter and it's well secured to other structures with vertical plywood. and it meets te hull at the bottom where it appears to be glassed into the hull at that point. The aluminum rudder shaft was fitted into it (I guess) from below. At top of the rudder shaft or rudder post is a flange which grabs the rudder shaft and which appears to prevent the rudder from falling out. The water is seeping in apparently through a crack where the rudder tube is fused to the hull. I can sit above it and watch water stream in every time a little wave slaps the area.
I have just submitted a claim to Beneteau through the dealer under warranty under the theory that since the rudder tube is fused to the hull and it is the same material, it is structural and not mechanical and the warranty covers structual defects for 5 years.
Has anyone else experienced a problem like this?
