Rudder inspection

Forgive me, I'm sure this has been covered here a thousand times. But I'm entirely new to Yahoo groups, and they are still baffling to me. Anyway ... I have heard that one of the few problems one must watch for when purchasing a Vega involves the rudder. But I've never really heard any specifics! Can anyone elaborate on the exact nature of the problem I should be looking for, how to detect it, and if it does exist, what is the procedure to remedy it?Thanks so much. The Admiral and I are very eager to own our own Vega, but I don't want to make any big mistakes in the purchase process (been there done that!!)

I'm just trying to find where the responses to this question went ... totally baffled by the whole Yahoo thing.

You certainly are patient. I have no experience myself but I found these
docs floating around. I can't remember if attachments work here. If they
don't then stir me up and I'll send them directly to you.

Rudder Issue on my boatThere is a split up the leading edge where the two halves were laminated together, and a shorter split on the trailing edge.I plan on glassing the front and rear edges, then re-faring the rudder.~ Pete

Pete,

I recently pulled my Vega out (and it was 10 years since the last haul out) and found no problems with the rudder at all and my Vega is hull 827, older than most on this list.  The only concern I would have is the need to watch sacrificial anodes on the
boat to protect the brass fittings….  Hal

If you can’t find your “responses” or other input, remember to try your SPAM folder, as this group’s emails often reside there.  Hal
