Rudder hardware...

Hi everyone,
My boat came with a rudder and tiller but rest of the hardware to get
it all installed and connected is missing. I'm guessing that metal
brace that holds the bottom of rudder's rod - is it called heel or shoe?
Anyway, I wonder if anyone knows where can I acquire replacement. Also
the part that connect the tiller to the top of rudder's rod - not even
sure how it looks like but...also need to be aquired, so again if
anyone of you might help me find a source of repacement I'd appreciate
it.
By the way... I was reading that rudder is one of Vega's weakness. Have
anyone experienced any problems with it?

Another question - other weakness in Vegas - mast support. Again did
anyone of you had a problem with original support system? I have to
redo whole bulkhead so if you know of better way of distributing the
load from the mast, please share your wisdom :)

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi Arek

I can supply the rudder head but Im afraid not the rudder shoe. You will have to get one manufactured locally.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the pics, I appreciate your help. Yes picture are very
helpful since I've not seen another Vega in person so such visual
help of "what is suppose to look like" is really useful.
Thanks,
Arek

I seem to vaguely remember that someone was parting out a Vega after a
storm, or was it salvageable? If parts are available, they might have a
rudder shoe. Does anyone with a younger brain than mind remember that email?
The other option is to see if someone has a Vega out of the water that
they'd be willing to pull the shoe off, so a small bronze caster would have
a mold for a simple sand casting (I used to do casting, but haven't in
years).

Hi, Arek

You may want to try and find a member of the Vega group in the Florida or
Texas area who may be able to help by scrounging some boat salvage yards for
you. Perhaps with the strong hurricane season we've had over the last few
years they may be able to locate some of the missing hardware for you from
Vega's which have been totalled.

Best regards
