Rudder Compatibility

Hello All,

I have a rudderless Cat22 of 74 vintage, I have a line on a rudder from an 86 Cat22. From what I've seen it looks like the rudder design was changed in 87, if that is correct will the 86 rudder fit on my 74? Normally I'd arrange a fit test prior to buying the rudder but it is a 2 hour drive to get to the rudder, I'm not keen on driving it back if it does fit and I can't imagine the owner would let me take the rudder even with a deposit on it.

The pintle size changed sometime in 88. My 88 still had the 3/8" like all the models before it, so a rudder from 86 should fit just fine. Just a note, my original rudder was completely water logged and weighed probably double what it should have. Hope you found a good one. You can always do the pintle upgrade on your boat as well, it's a worthwhile investment. Good luck
