My boat doesn't have the rudder collar bushing, I had read from old posts that it could be fabricated in nylon or teflon. Could some one provide dimensions, photos or tip to build a couple of them? Thanks,Carlos.
When I replaced the one on my 1981 25 I had the machine shop make a spare. They could make you one from the spare. The spare will be a little to tight for the shaft and will need to be reamed out a bit. If you want the dimensions I will get them for you. Some had said it is not a bearing but just a retainer to keep the rudder from droping when out of the water. Mine rides on the teak and acts like a bearing but who knows what it really is.
Kenny,I have a friend who own a machine shop, he could make it for me, he can make the collar based in the gaps "play" that the rudder shaft had. But a will like to know the thickness of the factory collar to use it as reference. If this is collar is not actually a bearing can I make it of aluminum instead of plactic?Carlos.
If you are talking about the collar that prevents the rudder post from falling out the bottom, I used a 2 inch section of 2inch white PVC pipe. the ID of the PVC is just over 2 inches. Drilled the hole to match the rudder post. Seems to work well.Bob
Thanks Guys for the Info.If this collar is just to support the tiller post, I will build someting in PVC to replace the scary pin that one of the previus owners installed, until get the final collar made in aluminum and a thin teflon washer to protect the teak.Carlos.
