My boat is currently on the hard to replace my prop. While out I noticed that my rudder has a lot of side to side movement at the post so it looks like I am going to have to do some bearing work. Anyone do this? I have also read that some have replaced the rudder on the early 42s with a larger rudder. Again, anyone do this? What kind of cost is involved in this? How much do these beasts weigh? Your advice will be appreciated.

Hey, Jim- The Catalina 42 International Association Discussion Forum (link below) has good advice about rudders as well as the "new" rudder. The forum has a lot of other good advice specific to the C-42. Ernie April

Loose Rudder Bearings

I am having the same problem with my 380. The lower rudder bearing appears to be loose in the rudder tube. Some owners have corrected the problem by having the dealer re-mount the bearing with 3M 5200. Jim Seemann C380 #123
