My '93 C30 seems much harder to steer than other boats I have sailed. I have serviced the steering, new needle bearings, cables, etc., and still it feels as if it loads up. Could my rudder bearing need work? Thanks...

good question

Kevin, That question is a little out of my area of expertise. Some food for thought. You may have a slightly bent shaft. Is the tip of your rudder scraping the hull? Is there a spacer washer between your rudder and hull? Most times when your boat is on land the rudder will be pulled down. When your boat is in the water the rudder probably floats up. The washer should ensure proper spacing between the rudder and hull. Sorry I could not be more help. Good Luck, Al Walker

packing gland

Isn't there a packing gland on the rudder shaft? That could be a possible source of friction Regards, Chris
