has anyone had to replace the rudder bearings. i know catalina direct has a repair kit, but my problem is a bit more seveve. the area where the top of the rudder tube attaches to the deck, literrally pulled loose. it appeared that it had been previously been repaired and was reattached by adding addititional fiberglass. when the upper bearing became worn the cabled wheel mechanism below deck would wobble and strike part of the fiberglass support structures below the wheeled mechanism every time a large wave struck the boat broadside. this became a concern as we were crossing Lake Superior from the Apostle Islands to Grand Marias and then to Canada. the whole upper end of the upper fiberglass tube containing the rudder post was loose and wobbling because the upper bearing was worn and the fiberglass bracing of the upper tube had broke loose. While in Canada, i did a unique temporary fix, but am now thinking about a more permanent fix.
