Rubber Thingies for Outboards

I was considering using one of those mats that is supposed to absorb some of the vibration from the outboard motor. Has anyone used them before? I had it in my hand and was headed to the register but $20 seemed a little steep, not being sure of it's utility. A whole set of rubber floor mats for a car can be had for the same price. I put an old mouse pad on the boat to try it next time we go out to see if that would help. I know it will not hold up as long but may give an indication of the usefulness of a purpose built vibration mat. Any thoughts? Should that $20 be spent elsewhere? It might have made a good Valentines present for the wife now that I think of it.

Vibration & your Valentine!

Dear Rick, I think I read somewhere that vibration matts for outboard engines were about # 1 or perhaps 2, on the list of don't buy for Valentine's day. Now if you were to lay a dozen red roses on top of the matt I bet you'd serve your interests well! Rick, thank you for the reminder because I haven't bought anything yet. Repectfully, Larry Barnes

I have 1st hand knowledge that.....

buying stuff like that doesn't sit well with the "little lady". I bought my wife a new outboard for Valentines day and it didn't go over real well (if you get my drift!)However, the dozen roses I had sent to her office did! Mark Johnson

Best Valentine's Day Gift

Gold bracelet with gold-plated deckplate key. It's functional, it gives her something to tell all her friends about "her" boat, you never have to look for a deck plate key in the @#$@$%%@# nav station again, and most importantly, it's a piece of jewelry she'll cherish for a lifetime. :)

Buy a bottle of wine

The boat is usully the guy's toy unless the better half or gilrfriend has a helping hand. Suggest that you buy a bottle of wine for the little lady and go sailing on a moonlite night. In the end, it is the best $20 worth. Do this once in a while with your lady and maybe you might get the bigger boat of your dreams.

Rubber thingies for U and your Wife

If I were you I'd get the rubber thingies you put on your own engine thingie, to keep the little fishies out of the hatchery thingie. By doing that you avoid the little thingie in about 9 months !

Transom Pad

Transom pads will reduce the damage to the transom caused by the OB clamp. If you do not mount your OB on the transom you may not need a transom pad. Phil
