Rubber pads to protect sidedeck when using A-frame to lower mast?

Hi.

I've decided to go with a simple A frame formed from 2 galvanised steel
tubes (1 3/4 inch inner diameter), 6 metres in length (about 20 feet).

I've drilled 10 mm (1 cm/0.4 inches) holes near the tops of the poles to
take a bolt which allows the frame to pivot at the top.

I'll guy the frame fore and aft.

I'll secure the feet of the A frame to the forward U-bolts on side deck.

(I should "chamfer" the feet so they rest flat on the sidedecks.)

My only (for now) remaining issue is how to protect the side-decks from
the feet of the two legs.

One suggestion - just secure wooden pads to the deck before resting the
legs on wooden pads and securing?

Alternatively: source heavy rubber "shoes" to fit over feet of the two legs.

Or tapered wooden pegs hammered into base of each leg??

Any suggestions welcome.

John,
I have soft plastic pipe caps on the 'A' frame leg ends. They're the blue kind, used to cap metal electrical conduit. I going to add a hole drilled through the bottom of each leg to thread the lashing through.

The caps are mainly to protect the deck from scratching when putting up the legs. They are not too 'grippy', but if the leg is lashed or strapped to the chain plate it's not going anywhere, and it's not supporting a lot of weight.

Thanks Peter.
Did you "chamfer" (ie cut to meet the side deck profile) the poles?

More importantly, what do you think of my choice of 6 meter 1.75 inch
diameter poles?

Is there any danger that the poles might "go out of column" == collapse?

I'll obviously check by suspending say 70-80kg weight (i.e. me) from the
assembly before using on mast.

I have found it surprisingly difficult to find a source of advice online
for this (to me) crucial question..

Thanks again.
