I have used rubbing and or polishing compound depending on how bad they are if real bad use rubbing compound with a green 3m scrubbie if just a light cleaning use a sponge and polishing compound. Treat with a vinal rubber type protector.
We've had success with this product - no residue and it does a great job with just a little scrubbing. Rinse well and you're done. Available at most auto parts stores and cheap (there's no wording "for marine use"). The website below has more details.Ned and Tani Strains/v Family Therapy 1995 h336Chicago
I buy the generic Walmart brand, it does a great job cleaning fenders, rubrails, lifelines and anything plastic. It even removes the black marks from and on tennis shoes.
