I have a 2001 Catalina 310. Today I noticed my starboard side rub rail falling of the frame about in the midsection. I tried using a mallet to secure it to the frame, but there are areas that are still not connected properly. I was thinking of using 4200 sealant to secure the railing to the frame. Does anyone have any suggestions?

My boat, 2000 #18, is tied up to the outside of my boathouse and occasionally bumps hard against the 2" pipe roof supports. While I use flat fenders hung from the lifelies as cushions, over time the rub rail insert stretches to the point it won't fit back into the extrusion. I've siimply pulled it out to the stern, reinserted it and cut off the excess.

I also have a 2001 model #118 and had rub rail problems on both sides a few years ago. Rubber mallet was the quick fix but then I used 4200 dabs every 2-3 ft all the way around and it hasn't moved in 3 years (knock on fiberglass). It was not an easy one person job to pull out the insert add 4200 push it back in and hold it there while it cured. I used packaging tape to hold it in place. Not elligant but it worked. The rub rail problem is a basic design flaw in most Catalinas. My old 22 had a problem as well. Same insert design.
