Hi, Ive been reading the posts pertaining to rub rail removal of in my case, a Hunter 410 from 2000 and have read that it was necessary to heat the rail before removal.
Im my case I have a rub rail that wraps around the transom or sugar scoop and I need to replace both chain plates.
I also read that I should be addressing Al Fooks but any advice would be appreciated.
The rub rail is in one piece and I would like to know if the rail can be pulled out from front to back both sides at once; how would I go about removing the transom section to pull it out?
Or have I misread and it needs to be removed like a snake all around the boat till the second chain plate is exposed?
And about the heating...the boat is currently located in Curacao, which is warm this time of year (85F). Do I still need to heat it and if so how?
Is it useful to run soapy water thru it to help it along?
And last but certainly not least..what are the chances of getting it off and sliding it off without damage if I am a capable mechanic?
thanks
