Hunter 410 Curacao
Hi, Ive been reading the posts pertaining to rub rail removal of in my case, a Hunter 410 from 2000 and have read that it was necessary to heat the rail before removal.
Im my case I have a rub rail that wraps around the transom or sugar scoop and I need to replace both chain plates.

I also read that I should be addressing Al Fooks but any advice would be appreciated.

The rub rail is in one piece and I would like to know if the rail can be pulled out from front to back both sides at once; how would I go about removing the transom section to pull it out?
Or have I misread and it needs to be removed like a snake all around the boat till the second chain plate is exposed?

And about the heating...the boat is currently located in Curacao, which is warm this time of year (85F). Do I still need to heat it and if so how?
Is it useful to run soapy water thru it to help it along?
And last but certainly not least..what are the chances of getting it off and sliding it off without damage if I am a capable mechanic?
thanks

I don't know about your Hunter, but we removed and replaced ours on our Cat. 30 and once we began it was easy. It sort of clips in so taking it off is just a matter of tugging a little to get over the 'clips' set in the frame. Putting the new one in was easy too! One of our earlier improvements and also one of the easiest. We did not heat anything and I imagine it was a normal day of about 70 degrees. Hope that is somewhat helpful!

Here is the 356 install SOP. Don't know if it will help. It says the only part of the rubrail keeper that has to be heated is the aft 22 feet. It is in 3 pieces. The rest can be installed as is. Seems you don't have to uninstall the entire rub rail to get to the two chain plates if you start at the front where it tucks into the bow fitting/roller. Have some rope from the life lines to hold it up. The C30 has a shoe box hull to deck joint and an aluminum rub rail with a continuous rubber insert the clips in; nothing like the Hunters.

Excuse the nosiness, would you tell us why you have to remove the chainplates?

the outside rubrails on my 410 will just pull off the hull/deck joint if you take the screw out of the SS outside strip
