Rub Rail fasteners leaking??

While performing some work to the inside wood panels on the port side of my 2003 Catalina 310 we removed the rub rails that also help retain the wood panels. When removed we found that the fasteners through the rub rails appeared to be leaking by evidence of staining on the hull liner behind the panels.

Question? Has any other owners ever hear of this happening? This is a 2003 Catalina. I owned older Catalina's and never heard of this happening. Your comments welcomed.

I'm a little confused as to where you are talking about. Do you have any photos?

Do you mean the teak trim panels about 3" wide in the forward cabin above the little shelf? I tried to remove the wood trim between the shelf and this trim to fix a leak and found that the panel appears to have been installed before the deck was installed at the factory and cannot be removed (without a saw).
