Hi all; The rubrail on my 2000 C36 is quite discolored and scuffed. Any ideas how to bring it back to looking somewhat decent? I tried Colonite boat cleaner this weekend and it helped with the spots that are still gray, but didn't touch the yellowish discoloration, (I'm assuming it's from the sun). Thanks!!

A (sort of) suggestion

We finally gave up and replaced the vinyl rubrail insert on our Catalina 30. I know some have had success cleaning theirs, but we didn't. I will say that replacing it made a huge difference in the look of the boat. We couldn't believe the improvement. The insert is available from catalinadirect.com and maybe other places. It took a couple of hours to get the new insert installed. I know I didn't answer your question about cleaning, but replacing is certainly a good option that will make it good as new (actually ... it will be new.) Regards, Gary

Try Spray 9 Marine. Follow the instructions on the bottle. I keep acetone, oxalic acid, Spray Nine, teak oil, boat wash and a boat wax in my dock box. Acetone and oxalic acid to remove paint and stains. Spray nine for everything. SH

Mr.Clean erasers

I've found that the Mr. Clean eraser type things will clean the rub rails very well. Probably need two cleaners to finish the rub rail on the whole boat, but they work for me.

anither method

Using acetone as the first step was very slow and not as effective (for me). I had the best luck using a green scotch brite pad and some comet with bleach powdered cleanser. This got most of the crud off, then acetone cleaned up the rest. A quick coat of wax for protection and all looks good.
