My rub rail is showing signs of its age and I'd like to clean it up bit. Its got some black spots (look'n like mildew) and other nasty looking whatevers. Any ideas that you guys have would be appreciated.

White Rub rail ... Acetone as last resort (when bleach water and clenser don't work) I had to use acetone finally but it seems to kind of chemically melt the outer "skin" of the white rub rail material ... does look 100% better though and much less elbow grease! I was ready to match up the rail at this rubber/plastic extrusion wholesaler I found in southern california (they have HUNDREDS of diff marine rub rail shown in PDF file downloadable catalog!) the catalog shows to scale cross sectional views for each extrusion sthey make! I attached link

I had that ugly brown rub rail on my boat. Even if it was clean, it was still really ugly. I replaced mine with a new grey rub rail from CD. Boat looks way better with the grey. White would look nice too. Anything but that brown. Brown??? Who at Catalina thought that looked good?
