Trying to clean up the Rub Rail on my Hunter H376. The only thing that cleans it is acetone. But using acetone is a pain, it evaporates so fast. Does anybody have another solution? Mineral Spirits doesnt work.
Have you lookoed at Island Girl Pink or Aurora Marine for some other alternatives. Acetone is usually a quick fix, but will sometimes make the rub rail soft.
I use a Scotchbrite pad with a good spray cleaner for the rub rail. That handles most of the grime except where i have some rubbed up against a piling or something dirty and greasy - then I use some acetone on the pad and scrub like mad before the solvent evaporates.
The rub rail on our 356 is some sort of vinyl or "rubber." Not sure what yours is, but I've had very good luck on mine with a little of the "7" polishing compound sold for cars. Stays clean, too.
I use Colonite metal Cleaner/Wax. It rubs on easy and removes all the grime. You'll use a lot of towels doing the whole rail, but it last season to season.
