Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone utilises the swivel boom connector to roll up their mainsail.

i always furl my mainsail onto the boom with the boom disconnected and just rotate the boom and furl the sail with it all on deck.

Is the swivel joint intended for easy furling with the boom attached to the mast.

any help would be appreciated.

regards
paulie from Oz.....

I have seen several comment on this, and most agree that trying to roll the sail on the boom while underway is a good way to get your butt wet.

My 91 - V22 had the same thing. I ws going to add gromets to the sail, but decided to buy a new sail and it has a reefing point. Also, I moved the main sheet up to the companion way and did away with the rear mounted main sheet rigging.

old style roller reefing

It always helps to know just what year and model boat you have.
The roller reefing system on my 77 V222 is unusable and in my opinon a saftey issue. I purchased a Jiffy Reefing Kit for my main and will be installing it soon. Keep an eye out as I ask this forum for advice on installation.
My advice is to not use the roller reefing on the older Macs, we are not talking about the new Main sail in boom rollers. You might be better off sailing under jib alone or main alone if the winds pick up.

reread

I just reread your post, are you talking about storing your main rolled up on the boom?
If so, no, I take the main off and bag it. If I'm staying out overnight on the water, it gets bungeed (spelling) to the boom.
Hope this helps
