Do you still have the corrupt display on your GPS or was there ever a resolution? I think my Garmin GPSmap76 has the same problem. Yesterday after booting it kept displaying a vertical line on the screen would not shut off
I tried new batteries but then I remembered something I think you mentioned about disabling WAAS. I tried that and it seemed to work okay for the rest of the day.
I've had the unit two years now and it never gave me any problems.

Manny, That was the fix. Downloading updates from Garmin didn't help. But a talk with a Garmin tech rep said that it was a program flaw. I sometimes take my GPS on road trips locally. If I take the same road home, the trail of bread crumbs shows the lane change coming and going. Disabling WAAS doesn't seem to have made enough difference in accuracy to matter.

Thanks Ross. I was thinking of bringing it the Annapolis show with me to see if I can show it to one of the Garmin reps but I guess I wont bother.
By the way, amazing sailing yesterday out our way. Had a beam reach most of the way to Turkey Point. Averaged 6 knots down the channel on just the Genny, down near the point the wind was a lot higher but steadier coming up the bay and we were averaging 7 knots!!!!! Hit 7.4 at one point, and we had these really nice rollers (i'd say they were 3 footers at least). Every time we hit one of those and get splashed we would just laugh like crazy. I wish I had shot video but I was too busy just hanging on.
Oh yeah, I can finally say I ran aground in the Chesapeake Bay!

Thanks again,

Manny

Thanks Guys

My old Garmin V deluxe had that problem about two weeks ago. After about 5-10 minutes it just showed a straight line. I'd have to discionnect the batteries to even try again.

I read your post and disabled WAAS. The unit has been on now for over an hour, working well. Thanks.

The double upside, the Admiral ended up telling me I should get a new GPS. The old one helped us out more than a few times. I picked up a new GPSMap 76CXs for @$140 off standard price. What a deal.

Thanks again for the info..that is what these site are all about...

Re: Thanks Guys

I think that unless you are trying to enter a very narrow channel WAAS is unnecessary.. The charts aren't as accurate as the GPS and at the scale of most charts the second decimal on the minutes is the width of a hair.

Hey Manny!

Aren't you glad now that you moved down to the "Top of the Bay"? (VBG!)

I'm really glad I made it down to the bay. I've learned more about sailing this year than I have in the past three years. I don't go sailing as often as before but I go out for longer and it's always better. One bummer is that we kept planning to try some overnight trips but something would always come up, but there is always next year!

Re: Hey Dan!

Ross, I'd still like to do a trip this year but it's already getting to cold for the admiral, though I guess anything can happen!

Re: Hey Dan!

The differences in people, for Nancy it is starting to get right. Neither of us like sailing and overnighting in hot weather.
