Currently, my 1993 Hunter 375 has 4 Gerhaur rope clutches on each side, and is eating up halyards. I have already rebuilt them with new clutches with the same frayed results. At well over $200 a pop for halyards, it makes sense for me to consider replacing these rope clutches with a kinder gentler design. Under consideration are the Spinlock XTR's and the Antal V camS. Most of these better designs have a different mounting hole pattern than the existing Gerhaur, which are mounted with machine screws, 2 per clutch. Which leads me to believe that there is something in the mounting pad which is threaded to match. The machine screws are short, too short to be a thru bolt....
My question is what are they threaded into? It could be a plate that has been glassed into the cabin top....? Or just some nuts in there? Anybody been there and done that?
