I currently have no winch for my rollerfurling and in the heavy seas/wind of Hawaii I just don't have enough strength to pull it in. I thought about taking off my (too small) main sheet winch and installing behind the jib winch on port side. Of course that means purchasing another winch altogether. Has anyone had this arrangement or have an alternate suggestion on how to make it more manageable w/o having to buy a new winch? mahalo nui Cate

If you've

If you've rounded up slightly into the wind and it's still to hard to roll it in then something is not working correctly or out of adjustment. Check your halyard tension and don't try rolling it in while the sail is full. The problem with a winch on a furler is that if something is truly wrong you won't know it until it's to late because the strength of the winch will mask a problem. When was the last time the bearings were flushed? What is the brand and model of furler? How big of a head sail and what weight is the cloth? What method do you currently use to roll it both in and out??
