Roller Furling

I recently purchased a used Hunter with CDI FF2 roller furling. I've been reading the furler book that came with the boat and I've pretty much figured things out. I just don't understand how and when in the process does the tension get put on the sails so they will wind around the luff. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks.

Pulling on the furling (drum) line will pull in

sail...pulling on the sheet lines will pull the sail out. It is that simple. I am putting an F6 on my 27' hunter.

The drum has all of the line wound on it when the jib is deployed and being used. When you start pulling line off of the drum this winds up the jib. The instructions say you should have between 5 and 10 turns on the drum when the jib is completely furled.

I am not sure exactly what you are asking but I think it is the luff tension or the tension of the furling jib on the CDI furler. Simple. Keep pulling down on the down haul until you see ripples along the leading edge of the sail and then back off until they are gone. That pretty much sums that up. The line in the drum will roll up counter clockwise in the drum. When the sail is rolled up, make sure you have about 5-7 turns of line in the drum. Pull the sail out with the jib and pull the furling line to furl the sail back in. I suggest leaving line coiled around the sail at least one turn when furling in.

Tension

When you pull on the furling line, you keep light tension on one of the jibsheets, so the sail will wind up smoothly.
