I am wondering if anyone might have some advice on a particular brand of roller furling for a 1983 23'. I don't want to go the trial and error approach and I am sure serval of you have made this transformation and can save me the trouble. Thanks for the help.

CDI

I put the CDI on my '79 Oday 23 a couple of years ago. Based on my research and recommendations from others, the CDI was the unit to buy. I have never had a problem with it. As an added bonus, it was also one of, if not the least expensive option. My sailmaker turned out to be a CDI dealer, and offered to sell the unit to me at the same price as I could find on the internet. He also straightened out the foil and put the thing together for me for a very small fee. All I had to do was install it and the furling line hardware on the boat. I seem to remember the cost of the whole thing, including having the tape sewn in my existing jib, the furling line hardware, the furler, and the set-up fee, was less than $800. Money very well spent.

CDI

I have to agree, the CDI is an excellant furler. I just got a CDI FF2 and Brand New 150% Genoa for $820. (the sailwarehouse) The price couldn't be beat by anyone

Another CDI advocate

Hi Rick, Last season I added the CDI FF2 with a new 135 jib to my 222 and it worked great. The jib rolls up easily even in a strong blow, something the original Shaefer unit which was pulled up with the jib halyard, rather than installed over the forestay, would not do. I have been very happy with the CDI's performance, and my price tag, including the sail with the foam luff and UV cover was around $800 from a local sail maker. By the way, I was originally planning to get the ball bearing add on, and the sailmaker said it was not needed. He was right. I have a friend who has had a slightly larger CDI unit (he says the larger unit is overkill, but he got a good deal on it) without the ball bearing unit on his Precision 23 for 10 years, and he has also been extremely happy with its performance. For price and performance, I definitely recommend the CDI. Dave s/v Hakuna Matatta 1985 O'Day 222
