Tis the angle of the haliard causing the problems!
Most roller furlers require that the angle between the haliard and the top of the upper swivel be on the order of 15 degrees (or so). If the head sail os too low, this angle approaches 0 degrees and the haliard wraps around the headstay. If the angle is too high (avove 30 degrees), the furler becomes hard to unroll. You can probably get your furler to work properly by either adding a short wire penant either between the head of the sail and the upper swivel or between the tack and the drum. Do some experimentation using a rope penant at the tack. Once the furler is working properly, measure the distance between the tack and the lower shackle on the furler. Make up a wire penant of that lenget and use it between the head and the upper swivel.Good luck, but unless something is actually broken on the furler, this should fix it.There is one possible caveat to this ... This assumes that your head foil is long enough. If not, you may need to adjust the angle of the haliard by attaching a fairlead lower down the mast to create this angle.Steve M
