Hello all. I have an O'Day 25 and am looking to purchase a CDI Roller Furling. Do I need to purchase a new jib sail for this too or can i use the jibs that I have? Thanks.- Andy

If the jib has hanks (bronze snaps clip the sail to the wire) you'll have to have a luff tape sewn on by a sailmaker and then a sun protection strip on the leach (back part) which will be exposed to the sun after the sail is rolled up.

You may want to look into the cost of the CDI Furler with a Gennie to go with it as opposed to converting a Jib over. It can cost about $300 to convert a Jib over with the UV shield added. You really need the shield. Without the shield the sail would last about three seasons. I had my Jennie converted over when I bought my CDI Roller Furler and I'm wondering now if I made the right move.
I have an anchor roller on my bow with a Fortress anchor on it and I'm glad that I added a 5" tang on my bow plate to raise the furler drum enough so that it wouldn't interfere with my ability to use my anchor. Of course I had to sacrifice 5" of sail luff, but it was worth it. It's was a small compromise.
Whatever you choose to do, you need to decide ahead of time which side of the boat you want the drum control line, and which way you want the sail to roll up so that they can install the shield on the correct side of the sail. In other words, if you want the sail to roll up counter clockwise, the UV shield will need to go on the Starboard side of the sail. Also, it's a good idea to choose ahead of time the area for the control line cleat. My FF-2 CDI furler is supposed to have about 22 wraps of line left on the drum when the sail is all the way out. If you choose to mount the cleat closer to the stern rail, you'll probably need to figure out the total length of the line ahead of time. This is something that I didn't do when I bought my roller furler. I mounted my cleat in the wrong place and last year I wound up moving it back further. I suppose I can always add on to my control line but this is something that I never thought about when I bought the roller furler.
My 1986 O'Day 222 came new with an el cheapo Schaeffer roller furler which was pure junk. The cleats for these furlers were installed on the aft Starboard side of the cabin, which is not too handy for a single hander. So having the control line cleat in the right place, at least for me, is very important. So these are just a few things you may want to think about.
