Any guidance on how to get my harken Roller Furling Jib down? Tropical storm Hannah bjust about ripped mine, so am thinking of removing it before Isidore gets too close--- I'm hoping i don't have to go up the mast, but haven't figured it out...Thanks

Here's how

Unfurl it during a calm moment. Drop the jib halyard. Open the top and bottom U-bolts. It should slide off gracefully. Takes 5 minutes. Just be sure to attach the jib halyard so it doesn't fly back up the mast.

Need more info

What size boat? What size headsail? Here is what I did with the 150 Genoa on my H34. Unfurl the sail and tie off the sheet preferably on the same side of the boat as your halyard control is located in case the wind kicks up. Unshackle the tack. Make sure there's a stopper knot in the halyard and drop the sail. Unshackle the halyard from the "car" at the head of the sail and secure the halyard immediately. I recommend 2 men for this job. The sail on my boat came down easily enough but it was a bear to roll up and put away. If you were by yourself and the wind kicked up, you could get in some trouble. Never try this if the boat's up on jacks or a cradle. The real fun for me came when I tried to hoist the sail back up but one thing at a time. Good luck with Izzy.
