Hello, My O'day 25 has a roller furling. The sail (jib) does not have the "Sunbrella type Edge Fabric" sewn onto it as do many of the roller furling sails I see on other boats. There is however a different peice of sail material sewn on the exposed edges of the sail where the "Sunbrella" type of material would be sewn. This material is slightly darker in color than the rest of the sail(off-white or Ivory as opposed to the brighter white of the sail itself). QUESTION: Do I need to install "extra edge fabric" or is this existing material designed for the task of protecting the Jib while rolled-up on the furler at anchor? Thank you for any comments, Rick.

Yes Its Quite Likely A Sacrifiacial Sail Cloth

I have the same set-up on my RF jib. An off white, slightly different looking fabric than the regular dacron sailcloth. It is a UV treated sacrificial material that protects the sailcloth wrapped beneath it. Don

Sunbrella Fabric

I put roller furling on my ODay 23 last summer. The sailmaker took my new 150 jib, removed the hanks and fitted it on the luff edge to fit the furler. However, when I asked to have a Sunbrella put on, preferably blue, he said the the white ones were better and longer lasting. So that is what I did. This white sunbrella fabric is almost the same color as the sail, but has the feel of plastic or vinyl. Perhaps that is what you have on the leech of your sail? Paul

dacon is lighter.

Sumbrella is nice but it is much heavier than Dacron. I would go Don's route with the dacron. Sumbrella is heavy enough to affect light air sailing. r.w.landau
