Roller Furling Main

Hi. I have had my new H33 for a month now. I have been having a problem with my roller furling main. When I furl the main (rolling it up), sometimes I must go forward and tuck the luff of the lower part of the sail back into the sail track to begin the furling process. Anyone had this problem?? We have tried tightening and loosening the halyard, with not much difference. Also, can I change the direction that the sail furls? i.e., it currently furls clockwise looking down on the sail. Seems that I could just change the direction that it 'rolls up' and maybe avoid this problem. Thanks Michael

Same Problem

Michael, I had the same problem for the first 3-4 times out. It eventually cleared up on it's own. The fuller has been working great for the last 3 months. Good Luck, Everett

Same solution

Same here. I tried tightening the main's halyard but after about a month of sailing the fabric of the sail softened up enough to pop in on its own. Andy

Furling Counter Clockwise

This must explain what I have been experiencing. I thought that I should pull the sail in with the line(loop) that is closest to the compaionway, because I thought that this was what I had been doing. Then it seemed that it was stuck. Finally, I was able to pull it in from the other direction. I now think that you can pull it in from either direction, which would mean either clockwise or counter clockwise, if it gets started in the right direction. Lately, mine has been stubborn when pulling it out with the outhaul, but after a slight pull on the outhaul line on the boom, everything starts coming out.

Furling Counter Clockwise

John and others, Glad to see that this is not just me (misery loves company?) Anyway, I will try furling in the opposite direction the next time I have this problem. Sure is nice when it works! Michael

Furling Counter Clockwise

I have been furling my sail counter clockwise (looking down from the top of the mast) and have had no problems. The Selden Manual for our mast shows furling counter clockwise for TYPE RB Mk II/RC Mk II masts. click the manuals tab at the topof the page

Same for me too

Main did not want to unfurl all the way, or roll back in in the beginning. Halyard tension needed tweaking, and the sail had to be rolled in and out a few times. Now it works great. BTW, my sail furls CCW, or to the right of center.

Furling

I too had the same problem. However, I noted that if I am not directly into the wind this will happen. As long you don't try to furl with any wind in the sail this won't happen
