A few months back someone posted an article about the proper length for the forestay on a H26 when installing a roller furling jib. The article also told how not to do it by leaving the forestay too long. Could someone direct me to the article? I've searched the archives and can't find it.

Roller Furling

I contacted Hunter when I installed my furling unit. The head stay is 29' 11 1/4 " long. I went with the Schaefer snap furl, which just snaps over the existing head stay. No modification required. Took about an hour with a friends help. Hope this helps. Dan S/V Unruly Julie

Roller Furling Connection

Don Did you have to extend the connection on the bottom of the furler for the drum to clear the deck? My forestay is attached a few inches below the deck level in the front at the hull deck joint line. This causes the furler to rub on the deck which is about 3-4 inches above the joint.

Using CDI?

If using a CDI system, then you will need to cut the forestay at the end of the stud and use a norseman fitting. If you need any further info. Call CDI and ask for Joe. CDI ;phone is 978-371-5508 Crazy DEave Condon

Shaeffer Snap Foil

I have a Shaeffer Snap Foil unit. I got it a few years ago when they first came out but never installed it.

Mine's a Shaeffer

I have a Shaeffer already installed but the mast seems to be raked back. I wanted to check the length to see if the installer did it right.

CDI Do's and Don'ts

We chose a CDI Furler, like it but are partial to it since it is our only experience with one (furler). We moor our boat, so we have installed a mooring cleat up in the front (which further complicates things). Our first attempt using all available data caused us to overlook the mooring cleat, duh!!! We ended up with a drum that rubbed against the mooring cleat ... and a mooring cleat that was unusable because of the drum. On our second attempt we got the correct length forestay and chainlink (I think that's what they called it). We've got the lengths and the name of a rigging company that made a very nice custom chainplate (to clear the deck and cleat) for about 50 bucks. If you're interested please e-mail me:BUGBOY@execpc.com. We'd be happy to share our hard earned wisdom to save you some attempts and $$$$. Fair Winds... Todd
