Does the CDI furler use a upper swivel and standard halyard ? I'm interested in the ability to be able to change halyard tension for draft placement. Thanks !
The CDI flex furlers have their own halyard that has a block internal at the upper swivel. The upper swivel is actually a solid piece of synthetic material with a hole in it that rotates around either the forestay or the upper swag fitting. It depends on how long you cut the foil. The swag fitting lenght is perfered. The halyard goes from the sail head through the solid swivel( with a sheeve in it) back down to the furler drum and is secured there.hope that helped. You can use a back stay tensioner ...r.w.landau
Backstay tension sets the amount of draft.More tension > less draft. Less tension > more draft.Halyard tension sets the placement of the draft.More tension > draft forward, round entry, lower point, wide steering grove. Less tension > draft aft, flat entry, higher point, narrow steering groove. He will not be happy with a CDI.
I have one on my Ericson 23 and it has done well for me. It is relatively easy to adjust luff tension on the genoa - dry lubing the groove helps a lot to cut down on friction with the luff tape.
