Has anyone replaced or modified the roller furler on a Hunter 30 88-94. The factory installed Hood continous line furler leaves alot to be desired. Has anyone mounted a different furler above the deck or below the in the standard position?? Any recomended brands?? Thanks

Hood refit

Hood makes a retrofit for the 810 & 900 series that converst from CL (continous line) to SL (single line). Check out the Hood web page at www.pompanette.com. (Pompanette is the parent of Hood.)

CDI is mounted below deck

I have to fair the furling line to mine as it rubs on the drum at the moment. (The previous owner didn't have the recommended block)

Works Now

Barry, I also had a ton of trouble with my Hood line drive 810, continuous line furler. I tried everything to make it work. I finally found that it was simply missing a connection bracket. For the furler to work correctly when mounted below the deck it has to have a bracket to hold in position. The line must feed into the drum and out of the drum straight and the drum must stay in position. Otherwise, the drum twists out of position and the line no longer feeds in correctly. The connection goes form the bottom of the drum, down a few inches to a steel horizontal cross piece. Once I connected this, The furler has worked perfectly! I can pull the jib in and out with two fingers. Phil

I, too, have the Hood 810LD and have been thinking of retrofitting it with the Hood upgrade. I note this upgrade costs over $500, however. Has anyone out there done this upgrade? If so, what's involved in the installation? Is it worth it or does it make more sense to just replace the whole unit with a furler that has a better reefing capability?
