Roller furler removal

Well, after living with the damn thing for all these years, I finally decided to get rid of my Streamstay 2 furler on my H45, having had it jam about 2 weeks ago. It never operated properly no matter what I did to it, and ate bearings for breakfast. If anyone wants this thing, I still have it, and I'll sell it *very* cheap. It needs a new lower unit (about $900) but that is still cheaper than buying a whole new furler. I am told that it will work just fine after that, but I personally can't tolerate looking at it anymore. The removal was a hell of an experience. Propane torch, impact wrench, headstay removal, and 3 trips up the mast, it's all off the boat. This task took about 8 hours of hard labor with 2 people. I ordered a Schaefer unit ($$$) and expect it to arrive any day from Rig-Rite, where Kim has been kind enough to offer great advice, sympathy, and a great price on the unit. I recommend Rig Rite (www.rig-rite.com) to everyone for all of your rigging needs. With Kim's price and the lack of sales tax, I actually came out ahead (even with shipping) as opposed to buying it locally. I'll write again after the Schaefer is installed. MC
