Furler problems
Hi, I recently had a silimlar problem with my furler. 2 things had happened. First, The top swivel near the mast had slid down too far, aboust a foot, allowing the cable that holds the swivel, to wrap around the furler rods. It was too low causing the cable to bind around the sail and support rods. I rehoisted the sail and made sure there was only a few inches of space between the swivel and the mast head. Second, at the base of the rolling drum, where the support rod enters the drum, there is a clamp piece that pinches the rod to keep it at the right height. When that rod drops down, even a inch, it can make the drum bind. That clamp piece had fallen out and the support rods had lowered into the drum and caused it to bind hard. I could still get the drum to turn but not on the bearings, more like twisting until the tension was to great and then I would have to run up front and turn back by hand. I repaired this piece (made a new one out of wood), lifted the rods an inch or so, reclamped them and everything is fine thus far. Hope this helps. schmidtstevens@hotmail.com Greg
