I would like to add a roller furler to the jib on my 1985 hunter 20 . the boat must be trailered between sails. I would appreciate any info on best type, where to get it, is it practical with a trailered boat, can the existing jib be modified and used, Thanks, Don Braun Braund@cfu.net

Check out CDI Furlers

Have you looked at the CDI furlers? They are very good for trailerable boats. Sailrite.com has them on sale right now. And yes your existing sail can be converted to be used on the furler. If you or anyone you know is handy with a sewing machine, you can buy the supplies you need to convert it to fit on the furler from Sailrite and do it yourself.

What model of Furler?

I asked the original questions about the furler to use. Do you know what model to use of the CDI furlers on this boat. Do I have to measure the forestay. My boat is in storage right now and it could be difficult to meaure the forestay? We can measure the luff on the jib. Is that going to work to decide between the ff1 and the ff2 model length? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Is your boat a Mast head rig?

Is your boat a mast head rig? Measuring the jib won't tell you how long your forestay is. Most jibs aren't a full hoist to the top. Your mast is 23.5 feet long. If it's a mast head rig than your forestay is longer than 21 feet. The FF1 is good for boats with forestays up to 21 feet. If your boat is a fractional rig then the FF1 might work. The other thing is the stud size on your forestay turnbuckle, the FF1 is for a max size of 1/4 inch. The FF2 is for 1/4-5/16 inch stud size and forestay up to 29 feet. You really need to know these two things before you order your furler. You could always call Sailrite or someone that sells these furlers and ask them point blank will the FF1 work on your boat. In the end you may have to make a trip out to your boat for a few measurements. Sorry I couldn't help more, maybe someone else with a Hunter 20 will chime in with the info you need.
