I have recently purchased a 36' Freedom with an unstayed carbon fiber mast. Like all Freedoms, the boat has a hanked on non-overlapping headsail. The sail has a boom foot sewn into the sail and is self-tacking. The question is can this be replaced with a roller furling headsail using the self tacking rigging. Darrow

Freedom

Hi Darrow, welcome to the Doyle Sails Forum. I personally don't know of any freedoms being rigged with a furler in place of the camber spar rig. Even so, if it were to be done, you would be giving up a substantial amount of sail area, and the ability to trim the sail on a reach, with a roller furling configuration utilizing the existing self tacking set up.

Darrow: Check out the Harken site. The setup on your Freedom is a Camber Spar. I have one of these on my Hunter 31 and have considered the exact same thing. There are several ways to rig these up. Some use a boom and track, others use blocks on the toe rail and a block on the jib with a control line and there are some other itterations
