Centerboard penant has parted. Board is down and in the mud in our slip. Boat is face in and can't back out. HOW TO retreive board?

Take a long nylon rope and drop the center portion of it over the bow while holding both ends in your hands. Let it sink to the bottom and walk back toward the stern with both ends and try to work the board slowly out of the mud. If it appears to be moving back into the centerboard slot, try to tie off the rope amidships by tying a bowline in one end of the rope, and running the other end through as if it was a single sheave. Then tie it off and bring the boat over to have it lifted out of the water. What year is your O'Day 23?
