Rodkicker Issue

Our 2001 420 Passage has Seldon Inmast Furling.
The Rodkicker do not seem to have a gas shock, as it drops down on the top when the topping lift is released.
How do you tell what model Rodkicker you have, is there a S/N on it somewhere?

I have exactly the same problem...

No spring in mine. You can buy one for it. I never use it. Just have it tied down.

Does your sailboat have a spring loaded boom vang?

LOL Call Selden with the serial number and they will send one out. Hunter went on the cheap and used them as a stop so the boom couldn't hit the traveler on anything with an arch. I don't know how much they saved per boat but it was a tacky move in my opinion. It was one of the first things I added to the boat, even have a spare.

Is there any advantage to having the gas shock other then not requiring the topping lift? Why bother having the Rodkicker with no gas shock?

The rod kicker with the spring/shock in it will help open up the leech of the sail. Light air vang off boom rises up, wind pipes up vang on to close the leech. The booms are pretty heavy so they effect roach shave all by themselves
