Rode to chain splice

Could anyone refer me to a site that shows how to do it. I'm pretty sure I know how but I need to check.

sorry not the one!

That is a return splice. but thanks! What I am after is a diagram for actually splicing the rope to the chain. In other words the rope is spliced in and out through the links of the chain for about 12 inches.

Didn't know this type of splice existed

I was just about to use a backsplice until I saw your post. Did a little searching and came accross the link below.

Have just found the same site. Would be interesting to find out how many use this type of splice. Most info I read suggests that this is the best way to join chain to rode. Seems that years ago this was the common way but the method has been lost over the years and only practiced by riggers of a fair vintage.

Hi Mark, Question about the second splice

That's an interesting type of splice, would it be able to pass through a windlass? I can seen where it would be a stronger rope to chain splice. Jim

Not sure Jim

But what I do know is that it should (if it can??) pass through a windless easier than joining the rhode to the chain with a shackle. Your thoughts?
