Santa brought me a Serius radio for the H-260. Anyone have experience with locating the antenna? Suggestions on where to exit the antenna wire to the outside? So many tunes, so little time to listen.

you don't need to put it outside

if you don't want to. The signal will go thru the fiberglass. Just don't put it under the winch or rope clutches.

Antenna

Hogan, I agree with Ruedi Ross. My FM antenna on my H260 is mounted on the galley counter. The cable runs out of sight under the counter to the receiver. I've had no problems with reception.

Need help??

You can simply send the unit to my home. I have a 260 and will be more thanhappy to do the research for you. I'll steal the 15 inch lcd tv my daughter got from Santa and build the whole thing into the boat!!! The whole testing process should only last a year or 5. Afterwards i'd just send the unit back to you. :)

what about the 3" metal requirement

The instructions say to make sure you have the antenna mounted over at least 3" of metal. How did you accomplish that inside the cabin? I like the idea of mounting it inside the cabin, not outside. How far away from the mast or winches should it be to prevent poor reception? TIA

What a deal!

Now there's a deal I can't refuse. An offer for a free shakedown cruise. Speaking of your borrowing your daughter's 15" LCD, have you determined where you would mount it? I was thinking of mounting one on the mast support, but first I have to find one at a really good price (after Christmas sale?) since my daughter didn't get one.

Sirius Antenna

We've had Sirius for about 4 years. First used with the antenna below deck above the headlliner. That worked great in the US. When we travel to the Bahamas which is in the edge of the satellite footprint, the reception had drop-outs. We then mounted the hockey-puck antenna outside on the bimini frame and it has performed great in that position. I used plastic wire ties to mount. I do not have a metal plate under the unit. It is just hanging by it's wire which is tied close to the hockey puck. If you plan to keep the boat in Ms, just lay it on a shelf below and try it out. You will probably never want to move it outside. Bill

Wall of the head was my thought....

Mounting the TV in the mast support would make it kinda hard to view I think. What angle are you going to mount it? Who gets to watch?? I was thinking the wall of the head. You'd be able to sit on the starboard side of the boat and watch tv. Or watch it from the v-berth. It would be easy to bring cables to it and it would be out of view of the helmsman at night. It would also give kids the opportunity to watch TV while dad snores away in the aft berth. I couldn't get my daughter to donate het TV to my cause either. I guess I'll have to get me a small car unit with built in player.

Mount's the secret

I was thinking of making a mount that would fasten to the mast support pole above the cabin table with a swivel so it could be pointed toward either side or straight toward the stern. Could even rotate around to V-berth but might be a little close for good viewing that way. If I do it, I will send pictures. Hoganc
