@LeslieTroyer and I took the opportunity to hear Robert Perry discuss boat design this evening. The presentation was in the Anacortes WA Library and was attended by 50 plus sailing enthusiasts.
Perry, now in his 70’s, is still excited to share boat ideas. He shared with us, and the owner, one of his latest creations.
“Francis Lee”
A 61 foot pointed at both ends 9 foot wide wooden sloop. The owners of this boat sat in the row ahead of us and were as excited about their boat as Perry was to tell us the story. They are one of the rare adventurers who decide they want a boat built for themselves and find a builder who from childhood had the desire to build the specific style of boat. After the build and launch both the designer and the owners are as excited about the result as they were to start the project
It was an interesting evening. And one I am pleased to have experienced.
The classic image shared involved Bob Perry’s 3 year granddaugter Violet.
