How in the world did those break? It would seem like they would be under compression loading if the vang was in use.
I would think you could disconnect the vang at the mast fitting, drill out whats left of the rivets and install new. The mast step only comes up about a half inch into the mast, and all the wiring exits the mast up about six inches. I would not think there woud be a problem of hitting anything inside the mast.
You certainly ne to use rivets again, there is not eough meat in the mast section to thread it. Be careful if you have to drill out any remaining rivet that you don't increase the hole size.

Sorry Doug, badly explained by me. It's part of the vang where the rivets have failed, not the mast attachment. Not idea how it happened, but we had light winds last weekend and had the tension right off, that's when we noticed the problem when the was little or no tension.

Hi update, boatyard were first class, at boat within 1 hour, stripped off boat back to workshop, stripped to tell me problem, had 2 new nylon washers machined locally and on boat, top and bottom re-riveted within 36 hours. Tip top IMHO!

Glad you were able to get it fixed.. After seeing how the yard did it, do you think you could have done it yourself?

Did they have any theories as to cause?

Hi Doug, no real idea why. The boat is 2006 but they have replaced the nylon washers at both ends, had them machined locally rather than wait for OEM's. 1 1/2 days start to finish. I doubt I could have done it myself especially in the time frame and having correct equipment.
