Rigid vang setup

Hey all...I noticed this potential problem yesterday and wondering if someone can tell me if it's set up incorrectly. Yesterday the nylon lock nut and washer were sitting on deck and the pin had risen up about an inch and a half. I pushed it back down and re-attached the lock nut and added a ring temporarily, but there's still a gap at the top and there is no washer on the lower part of the center assembly. I didn't set this up and it's been like this since I bought the boat, but it doesn't look like it's correct. Any thoughts?

Looks like there was a washer at one time on the lower center area. I would want both stainless and nylon washer on that location.

That looks OK. While there is some load (weight of the boom+sail) pressing down on the bottom of that fitting while the sail is down, under sail the much larger load is UP and against that wide flange.

Alright, thanks for the info. I will take a look under sail next time I'm out and see what it looks like then. I still feel like there should be a washer there, but obviously if it's been that way for many years it's probably not a problem.

Probably would not hurt. You can see where the wiper part of that piece has rubbed off the black anodization over the years.

Les suggests a nylon washer as sacrificial. The Garhauer comes that way, and the washer wears over time needing replacement. Saves the finishes on the metal bits.

I had same problem with my Selden Rodkicker. It tends to ride up the play/gap making a snapping soubd when on the run. I intend to fill the gap with nylon washers.
