I am looking to buy catalina28 mk2 what is the advantage of a rigid boom vang over the sheet vang

I have one on my C320. One difference is that it becomes your topping lift. With the Dutchman flaking system the topping lift line is used to slacken or tighten the line. The boom is supported from the deck in order to do this.

Nice upgrade

Hi Gene - As Ron mentioned, you can eliminate your topping lift (with it's associated flopping and wear on the leach on the mainsail). It nice to fine tune twist in the sail. If you make it easy to fine tune sail shape you'll be more likely to make changes and improve your performance. Garhauer makes a nice stainless rigid vang, among others. Best, Trevor

Garhauer is the best value

IMO the Garhauer is, by far, the best value for the money. It is very reasonably priced and is very well made.
