The aft stay wire on the mast is quite loose. I have just purchased a 1999 26x and have no experience with this boat. In all types of sailing conditions this wire never seems to be what I would consider worth having. Is it just a safety for the mast or do I need to step the mast and then tighten the aft stay wire?

Wire Tension

By tightening the forestay turnbuckle......this will tighten up the backstay wire....these two wires position the mast fore and aft.....you want it with about 2-4 degrees of rake (leaning back)........if you don't tighten the forestay, when you sail your genoa or jib the forestay will bow out and give you a not so great sail shape. If you tighten the forestay up and you still have some slack, loosen the forestay up again and then tighten the back stay up some then retighten the forestay. The manual has a good starting point for the setup.....as far as what holes the veniers should be started out at.

I found a 26x manual on line and read the rigging section. Thanks for the help.
