We have a 260 which is about twelve months old. This afternoon in fairly moderate breeze (about 5-10 knots)the port side lower shroud snapped. Check your rigging very closely. I'm not sure if the rigging on the 260 is as good a quality as one would hope. On our other yachts the rigging is bright stainless however on the 260 even from new it looked dull, almost like it was mild steel, not high tensile. I'm sure that Hunter would not compromise on the quality. However be warned. Check and re-check.

Use caution raising the mast

It’s easy to bend the “t” bolts at the ends of the stays as you raise the mast. That, I’m sure would weaken them. Some people tape the lower part of the stay to the life-line while rising to keep the stay (turnbuckle) straight.

Seco South has been making the standing rigging for Hunter for many yyears and they have always used top quality steel. Never had any of their work to fail. Crazy Dave Condon

This should absolutely not have happened.

Please let us know the results of any investigation. alan

Shroud snap

I had that happen in high wind. The problem was a previously bent T-bolt in the turnbuckle that had been bent during the mast raising process. Once bent, they are weak and subject to catastrophic failure under stress.
