I have an 86 28.5 with the original standing rigging. The entire system "appears" in good shape, with no "meat hooks", staining on the turn buckles etc. My question is as a rule of thumb at what time is it time to replace the standing rigging. Or when is it's usable life over. The boat as never been out of the upper Chesapeake Bay and is used in primarily light to monderate air, 0 to 15 knots. My concern is my rig is tuned exactly the way I sail the boat and has provided lots of speed, therefore any work will have to conducted by someone familiar with the B

Have similar boat

I've got similar yr/model boat and have wondered about the rigging too. I think the shape of my cables are fine. What I am more concerned about are the integrity of the swedges. I inspect them for any indication of cracks. I 've read that you can perform a "superficial" test of the swedges by powering the base housings with talc and putting a few drops of tinted/food coloring water in the wires above and see if there is any permeation of the swedge housing. Its not perfect but its at least something that you can do rather easily. Jim
